AP Physics 1 Exam Question

A solid cylindrical disk of mass 2 kg and radius 0.5 m is rotating about its central axis with an angular velocity of 4 rad/s. Calculate the moment of inertia of the disk about its central axis.

I=12mr2 \\ I = \frac{1}{2} m r^2 \\
I=12(2kg)(0.5m)2I=12(2kg)(0.25m2)I=0.25kgm2 \\ I = \frac{1}{2} (2\, kg) (0.5\, m)^2 \\I = \frac{1}{2}(2\, kg)(0.25\, m^2) \\I = 0.25\, kg \,m^2

Answer: The moment of inertia of the disk about its central axis is 0.25 kg⋅m^2.
