The Age of Imperialism in Africa sparked numerous resistance efforts and independence movements, as African leaders and communities fought against European domination and sought self-determination. One prominent example is the Maji Maji Rebellion in German East Africa (present-day Tanzania). In response to German colonial policies, the people of the region, led by leaders like Kinjikitile Ngwale, initiated a widespread uprising in 1905. This rebellion, characterized by spiritual and traditional beliefs, aimed to expel the German colonizers. Although ultimately suppressed by German forces, the Maji Maji Rebellion represents the spirit of resistance against European control.
