Voltage is a fundamental concept in the study of electricity. It refers to the electric potential difference between two points in a circuit. The unit of measurement for voltage is the volt (V). Voltage can be thought of as the force that pushes electric charges to move in a circuit. It is similar to the pressure in a water pipe that causes the water to flow.

Voltage is essential for the movement of electric charges in a circuit. The greater the voltage, the stronger the push on the charges, and the faster the flow of electric current. Conversely, when the voltage is lower, the electric charges move with less force, resulting in a slower flow of current.

To better understand voltage, think of it as a hill or a slope. The higher the hill, the more potential energy an object has. Similarly, higher voltage gives electric charges more potential energy, allowing them to move more easily through a circuit.

Voltage is measured using a voltmeter, a device connected across two points in a circuit to determine the voltage difference between them.
