A prime number is a positive integer that is divisible only by itself and 1. A composite number is a positive integer that has at least one positive divisor other than 1 and itself. For example, 5 is prime because the only ways to divide it are 1 and 5, while 6 is composite because it can be divided by 2, 3, and 6.
