Electromagnetism is a branch of physics that deals with the study of electric and magnetic fields and how they are interconnected. Electric fields are created by electric charges, which can be positive or negative. These fields can exert forces on other charges, causing them to experience a push or pull. Magnetic fields, on the other hand, are created by moving electric charges or by magnetic materials. They also exert forces, but in a slightly different way.

One of the fundamental concepts in electromagnetism is the understanding of how electric and magnetic fields interact. For example, when a wire carrying an electric current is placed near a compass needle, the needle deflects due to the magnetic field produced by the current in the wire. Similarly, when a magnet is moved back and forth inside a coil of wire, an electric current is induced in the wire. These examples illustrate the interplay between electric and magnetic fields in electromagnetism.
